Ultimate Guide to Custom Wedding Invitations

A comprehensive guide that walks you through the process of working with Jill Ng Studio and how we design custom wedding invitations, from choosing paper and printing techniques to selecting colors and fonts that match our client’s wedding theme!

Step 1: Consultation

It all starts and ends with the most important part of our process - you and your partner! We begin with a free consultation to discuss your vision, theme, color palette, any specific details you'd like to incorporate, your budget, and most importantly - learn more about the soon to be newlyweds!

Step 2: Design Phase

Think mood boards, design boards, and all the inspiration! Throughout the design phase, we hold rounds of review with the clients, ensuring that all our creations align with exactly what the happy couple want and envision. We begin by translating everything we learned from you in the consultation into a stunning visual reality. Once we have a good idea of the direction we’re heading, we begin drafting concepts of what the invitations suite might look like at a high-level for each of the different pieces included in the suite. Concepts are initially drafted by hand, and then the different elements are digitized at different times, once a more final foundation is defined. From there, we begin to determine (if we haven’t already) what printing technique(s) will be used and where, the surfaces that will be used to print on, what colors will be used and where they will be applied along with how much, as well as what additional details and materials might be incorporated. The design phase doesn’t really stop at the next step, it continues all the way through until the the invitations are being created!

Step 3: Final Review and Approval

Following the design process, and once a digital proof is finalized, we create a hard proof of the invitation for the client to be able to open and hold in their hands - so they are able to experience what their guests will! Hard proofs can be delivered in-person for local clients, or mailed via USPS for clients at a longer distance.

Step 4: Creation

Upon receiving the final approval from the client following review of the hard proof, we begin creating the copies of the invitation suite! We hand craft all our invitations - so no detail is ever missed, and making each and every piece truly unique and one of a kind. By handcrafting our invitations we are able to conduct quality checks throughout the entire creation process, and we don’t stop there - once all pieces are created we do one more final quality check! Invitation suites are then packaged accordingly (assembled in folders, belly bands, and / or envelopes) and stamped with the appropriate postage based on weight.

Step 5: Delivery!

Depending on your needs and requests, your custom stationary will be carefully packaged and delivered to either you or your recipients! We will also ship extra copies to you in the case of last minute invitations, as well as for keepsake and photography purposes! If you prefer to mail out yourself (for example, you want to run through your guest list one more time just to check off that box) we can deliver the invitations ourselves for local clients, or will ship via USPS.
